Meeting of 28 September 2017

During this meeting the following items were discussed:

  • Implementation of the CARIFORUM-EU Economic Partnership Agreement
  • Situation in CARIFORUM region after the hurricane
  • Preparations of the CARIFORUM-EU Parliamentary Committee (JPC) taking place in Trinidad and Tobago on 31 October - 1 November 2017

Constitutive meeting

A new DCAR Chair will be elected for the 9th European Parliament legislature 2019-2024 at the constituent meeting that will take place in autumn 2019 (exact date to be confirmed).

Meeting of 21 April 2016, Brussels

The meeting included exchanges of views on

- follow-up to the Five Year Review of the Cariforum/EU EPA, with
  • the Commission and
  • the Cariforum ambassador,
- the expiry of the Cotonou Agreement and the Economic Partnership Agreement, with
  • the Commission and
  • the Cariforum ambassador.
The delegation received feedback from recent meetings:
  • the Cariforum ministerial meeting in Georgetown
  • the Joint Consultative Committee meeting of April 2016.
Finally the delegation discussed preparations for the CARIFORUM-EU Parliamentary Committee (JPC).

Meeting of 17 September 2015, Brussels

The Chair announced that our attempts to convene the third Joint Parliamentary Committee meeting in November had failed due to organisational difficulties.

The European Commission briefed members on the outcome of the CARIFORUM EU Joint Council of 16 July 2015 in Georgetown, which mainly dealt with the review of the implementation of the EPA.

DG DEVCO presented the Caribbean Regional Indicative Programme 2014-2020.

The European External Action Service (EEAS) provided an update on Caribbean and EU political relations.

Meeting of 29 January 2015, Brussels

The meeting included exchanges of views on:
- the outcome of the Cariforum-EU Joint Committee of 18-19 November 2014 in Brussels, with
  • the European Commission,
- the outcome of the Meeting of the CARICOM Council of Ministers 16-17 January 2015 in Georgetown, Guyana, with
  • a representative from the Cariforum countries,
- the outcome of the Cariforum - EU Joint Consultative Committee of 13-14 October in Brussels, with
  • Ms Brenda King, EU Co-President of the Joint Consultative Committee.
The delegation also discussed preparations for the CARIFORUM-EU Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC).

Meeting of 6 November 2014, Brussels

The Chair announced that:
  • the Conference of Presidents had decided on 21 January 2010 that delegation members shall be drawn exclusively from the INTA and DEVE Committees and that INTA shall be the lead committee.
  • the first meeting of CARIFORUM-EC Consultative Committee (JCC) would take place on 13-14 November 2014 in the Economic and Social Committee in Brussels.
The meeting included an exchange of views on the state of play of EU-Cariforum relations and the implementation of the Cariforum-EU Economic Partnership Agreement, with:
  • The Ambassador of Belize, Dr Dylan VERNON, also a coordinator for the Cariforum Group,
  • Remco Vahl (European Commission),
  • John Kalogirou (EEAS).
Ms Anna Záborská was elected the first Vice-Chair by acclamation.
A calendar of activities in 2015 for the DCAR delegation was adopted.

Meeting of 16 October 2014, Brussels

The purpose of the meeting was the constitution of the Bureau of the Delegation to the CARIFORUM-EU Parliamentary Committee by the election of the chair and two vice-chairs.
Bolesław G. Piecha was elected Chair by acclamation.

The election of the First Vice-Chair of the Delegation was postponed to the next meeting.

Mr Maurice Ponga was elected second vice-chair by acclamation.

The meeting also addressed:
  • the calendar of meetings for the remainder of 2014
  • the draft programme of activities for first semester of 2015
  • the linguistic profile of the delegation.
