EU-Georgia Association Agreement

The "Association Agreement between the European Union and the European Atomic Energy Community and their Member States, of the one part, and Georgia, of the other part" was signed in Brussels on 27 June 2014 and entered into force on 1 July 2016.

The aims of this Agreement include:
  • promoting political association and economic integration based on common values and close links, including by increasing Georgia's participation in EU policies, programmes and agencies;
  • strengthening political dialogue on all areas of mutual interest, allowing the development of close political relations;
  • strengthening democracy and political, economic and institutional stability in Georgia;
  • promoting and strengthening peace and stability regionally and internationally,
  • promoting cooperation aimed at peaceful conflict resolution;
  • enhancing cooperation in the area of freedom, security and justice with the aim of reinforcing the rule of law and the respect for human rights and fundamental freedoms;
  • helping Georgia develop its economic potential through international cooperation, including through the approximation of its legislation to that of the EU;
  • achieving Georgia's gradual economic integration into the EU Internal Market, in particular through a Deep and Comprehensive Free Trade Area;
  • establishing conditions for an increasingly close cooperation in other areas of mutual interest.
Articles 410-411 of the Argeement establish a Parliamentary Association Committee - "a forum for Members of the European Parliament and of the Parliament of Georgia to meet and exchange views" - and describe how it functions.
