Next meeting: 30 November 2023

The next D-PAP meeting is scheduled to take place on 30 November 2023 from 10:30 to 12:00 in Brussels (room still to be confirmed).

Meeting: 10 May 2023 (replacing the 4 May meeting)

The D-PAP meeting was held on 10 May from 13:30 to 14:30 in Strasbourg (room: DE MADARIAGA S5). This meeting replaced the meeting previously scheduled for 4 May. The meeting focused on the discussion and preparation of the EP-PAP Interparliamentary meeting (scheduled for the week of 17-19 May in Midrand, South Africa). In the meeting DPAP Members decided to postpone the IPM to a later date (to be determined).

Meeting: 9 February 2023

The D-PAP meeting was held in Brussels on Thursday, 9 February from 14.00 to 15.30 (room Spinelli 1E2). The meeting focused on the EU-Africa digital divide and the Global Gateway Africa - Europe Investment Package, aiming to support Africa for a strong, inclusive, green and digital recovery.

Hearing : 5 December 2022

The African Union and its human rights and democracy mechanisms

The DPAP - in association with the Committee on Development and the Subcommittee on Human Rights, hold a public hearing on the African Union and its human rights and democracy mechanisms. The first part of the hearing was held on 5 December 2022 and focused on the views of the civil society organisations. More details at the link below.

Meeting: 1 December 2022

The DPAP meeting of Thursday 1 December from 15.00 to 16.00 was focused on preparing the upcoming European Parliament-Pan-African Parliament Interparliamentary meeting that would take place in the European Parliament in Brussels on 8 and 9 December 2022. Additionally, the EEAS and the Commission DG INTPA updated the members on the state of play of the EU-AU relations and on the implementation of the Declaration resulting from the European Union-African Union Summit: A Joint Vision for 2030.

Meeting: 26 October 2022

The DPAP, jointly with the Committee on Development (DEVE) hosted, on 26 October from 09:50 to 10:50, an exchange of views on 'Women empowerment: African women as positive actors of change' with Ms Lúcia Maria Mendes Gonçalves dos Passos, 3rd Vice President of the Pan African Parliament and other stakeholders. This was held in the framework of the European Gender Equality week

Meeting of 28 April 2022

Members discussed the current standstill of the Pan-African Parliament and the need to support the strengthening of the institutions and good governance in Africa. H.E. Ambassador Awad Sakine Ahmat, Head of the Permanent Mission of the African Union to the EU, representatives of the European Commission and the civil society contributed to this discussion. The Pan-African Parliament is currently working on internal restructuring and will soon hold new elections. Members expressed full support for the process.

Meeting of 22 March 2022

A joint meeting of the Delegation for relations with the Pan-African Parliament (DPAP), the Committee on Development and the Committee on Foreign Affairs took place on 22 March 2022. The Members discussed the outcome of the African Union - EU Summit (Brussels 17-18 February), the joint vision for a renewed partnership and the European Parliament expectations on its implementation. The included an exchange of views with representatives of the African Union, the European Commission and the EEAS.

Meeting: 10 February 2022

On an initiative of the Delegation to the Pan African Parliament, on 10 February, MEPs from the Committees on Development, Foreign Affairs, the Subcommittees on Human Rights and Security and Defence, members of the Delegations for relations with South Africa and to the ACP-EU Joint Parliamentary Assembly, and the Delegation for relations with the Pan-African Parliament (DPAP) hosted a high-level pre-summit meeting ahead of the European Union (EU) - African Union (AU) Summit (Brussels, 17-18 February).

The meeting, opened by the Chair of the DPAP, María Soraya Rodriguez Ramos MEP, included debates on the common challenges faced by both continents, including COVID-19 recovery, investment, boosting vaccination, food security and climate change, gender equality, good governance, and peace and security.
