Welcome to the website of the European Parliament's Delegation to the Euro-Latin American Parliamentary Assembly (DLAT).

As the elected Chair of the Delegation and European Co-President of the Assembly, I preside over our regular meetings in Brussels and Strasbourg and set the agenda for the joint work with our Latin American counterparts in the Euro-Latin American Parliamentary Assembly (EuroLat). Since its creation in 2006, EuroLat has held eleven ordinary plenary sessions in addition to meetings of its committees twice a year. Its most recent plenary session was held on 17-20 September 2018 in the provisional seat of the Austrian Parliament at the Imperial Palace (Hofburg) in Vienna (Austria) following the invitation of the Austrian Presidency of the Council of the EU. In order to prepare for the end of the EP legislature in 2019, a record number of 12 resolutions drafted by the standing committees was adopted and the Assembly Rules of Procedure were revised.

Building on a longstanding parliamentary relationship and based on shared interests and values, the political dialogue between the EU and Latin America have intensified in recent years and deals with a wide range of issues including climate change, migration, the fight against illegal drugs, the promotion of human rights, education, science and technology. Despite these positive developments, EU-Latin America relations are also facing major challenges, such as China's emergence as a new actor in Latin America, the impact of the current US administration's policies, the situation in Venezuela etc.

In the EuroLat Assembly, the 75 Members of the European Parliament work alongside the 75 Latin American Members from the regional parliaments to provide a parliamentary dimension to the EU-LAC Bi-regional Strategic Partnership and to debate, monitor and review all questions relevant to citizens in the European Union and Latin America and the Caribbean.

I am honoured to work with dedicated people on both sides of the Atlantic basin and I look forward to strengthening our relations even further.
