The EU is providing support to the Tunisian government in its efforts to monitor its land and sea borders. Individual measures tie in with an Italian maritime surveillance initiative (‘Integrated Sea Border Surveillance System in Tunisia’), as part of which the authorities are installing the ‘ISMaris’ surveillance system for the Tunisian coast guard. Subsequently, according to the EUTF programme document T05-EUTF-NOA-REG-07, data are to be exchanged between Tunisia and Italy or other EU Member States via the Eurosur system or Frontex.
- 1.Which individual measures were - or are being - carried out for the coast guard in the projects ‘Support for integrated border management in Tunisia’ in phase I (May 2015 to September 2018) and phase II (December 2018 to December 2019), and to what extent are these scheduled to continue?
- 2.What is the ‘ISMaris’ surveillance system which is being installed together with the Italian authorities, who are the manufacturers of the individual components, and what are the system's capabilities?
- 3.To what extent and how are data also being exchanged between Tunisia and Italy or other EU Member States through ‘ISMaris’ or a system being installed as part of the Italian initiative for maritime surveillance ‘Integrated Sea Border Surveillance System in Tunisia’, and to what extent and how are the Eurosur System and Frontex being used for this purpose?
