European Parliament President concludes visit to Bulgaria 

European Parliament President, Antonio Tajani concluded his visit to Sofia where Prime Minister Boyko Borissov and his government presented the priorities of the incoming Bulgarian Presidency of the Council starting on 1 January 2018 to the Conference of Presidents of the European Parliament.

President Tajani stated: “Bulgaria’s Presidency priorities are the European Parliament’s priorities. Together we share the responsibility to make Europe work so that our citizens will see results on common current challenges: migration, security and job creation for young people.

Bulgaria is committed to striving for a Europe of consensus, competitiveness, and cohesion.

It has also a key role to play in supporting and accompanying the future European perspective of its close neighbours in the Western Balkans.”

The European Parliament delegation held meetings also with Rumen Radev, President of the Republic of Bulgaria and Tsveta Karayancheva, Speaker of the Bulgarian National Assembly, as well as the Chairmanship Board of the National Assembly.

“Ten years of successful EU membership and its special geostrategic position have turned Bulgaria into a pillar of regional stability,” added Tajani.

The leaders of the European Parliament’s parliamentary groups participated in a public discussion with students and young Bulgarians.

“I welcome, in particular, Bulgarian Presidency focus on youth policies. In the last Eurobarometer the young Bulgarians put the fight against unemployment as top EU policy priority. If we want to create employment for them, we need to attract more investment, especially in the fields of digital technologies, creative industries and tourism. I welcome your Presidency's focus on the promotion of entrepreneurship based on digital technology and innovation.”

President Tajani was awarded with the highest Honorary Sign of Sofia University- "St Kliment Ohridski" .
