European Parliament commits to rebuilding the transport and tourism industry
The COVID-19 pandemic was a shock to us and to our economy. The European Parliament, together with other EU institutions, is working tirelessly to ensure a quick recovery and to rebuild our transport and tourism industry. In other words, our summer can still be saved.
There’s no doubt that the Covid-19 crisis has been absolutely devastating to the transport and tourism industry – both at home and across Europe. Now, with the worst of the pandemic seemingly behind us, hotels, bars and restaurants across the EU are opening back up.
The European Parliament has been working to put in place measures that will help businesses that have been hardest hit by the lockdown to get back on track and make the most of the summer holiday season. These measures include ensuring safety of workers and holidaymakers by providing guidelines on social distancing, protective clothing and hygiene.
The EU has also committed to helping businesses affected by lockdown measures with a number of financial supports, including the Coronavirus Response Instrument Initiative and the SURE instrument.
Now, as tourist hotspots across Spain, Italy, Greece and even here in Ireland start getting back to normal we need to make sure we know how we can make the most of the summer while keeping ourselves and others safe.
