In the context of the Russian war against Ukraine, the security situation in the Republic of Moldova has become increasingly tense. The country has been disproportionally affected by the recent events.
I condemn all provocations and attempts to involve Moldova in actions that could endanger peace in the country.
The EU must be ready to provide more humanitarian, security and socio-economic assistance to the Republic of Moldova, the longer the Russian war against Ukraine lasts.
This includes:
• increasing the financial and technical assistance, including through a new proposal for macro-financial assistance;
• putting forward additional proposals aimed at ensuring the full liberalisation of transport and trade with the EU;
• working towards granting EU candidate status to the Republic of Moldova, in line with article 49 of the Treaty of the European Union and on the basis of merit;
• in the meantime, working towards the full implementation of the Association Agreement with Moldova and its integration into the EU single market.
The Moldovan authorities under President Maia Sandu are on the right track by adopting key reforms that will ensure Moldova´s compliance with the ‘Copenhagen criteria’.
Let us provide our full support to Moldova’s European aspirations.

. – The EPP Group does not share the criticism of the recent conclusions of the Home Affairs Ministers as stated in the amended paragraph 39 of the resolution on Afghanistan. On the contrary, we welcome them as balanced and realistic. Additionally, we do not share the call on the European Commission to draft legislation for humanitarian visas as stipulated in paragraph 40. We believe that the European Union should shoulder its share of moral responsibility towards those individuals who have supported the international effort in Afghanistan over the last 20 years and whose lives are in peril today. In relation to the description of the situation in Afghanistan, the reasons why it has developed in such a direction as well as potential lessons learned the resolution reflects the position of the EPP Group.

Die Entschließung des Europäischen Parlaments ist eine umfassende Antwort auf die epochalen Herausforderungen der Krise. An der Entschließung habe ich konstruktiv mitgearbeitet und eigene außenpolitische Akzente gesetzt.
Die CDU/CSU-Gruppe im Europäischen Parlament ist überzeugt, dass Haftung und Verantwortung nicht auseinandergerissen werden dürfen. Aus diesem Grund lehne ich die Vergemeinschaftung von Schulden und Sozialsicherungssystemen ab. Dementsprechend habe ich gegen die Arbeitslosenrückversicherung, die Verwässerung des Europäischen Semesters und gegen die Vergemeinschaftung von Schulden gestimmt (Änderungsanträge 3, 6, 15).
Bei der COVID-19-Krise handelt es sich um eine Krise von historischem Ausmaß. Die Krise erfordert europäische Handlungsfähigkeit und Solidarität. Priorität muss sein, dass wir eine europäische Koordinierung des Krisenmanagements und des Hochfahrens der Wirtschaft erreichen. Ein Autowerk in Deutschland kann schließlich nicht ohne Zulieferer in Osteuropa hochfahren. Wir brauchen einheitliche Standards: Etwa für die Quarantäne-Bestimmungen bei der Einreise, oder die Express-Spuren an den Grenzen für Gütertransporte, Pendler oder medizinisches Personal, die die Entschließung fordert. Vor diesem Hintergrund lehne ich die oben genannten Änderungsanträge zwar ab, stimme der Resolution als Ganzes aber zu.
