This study analyzes the seed, feed, energy, fertilizer, and plant protection agents farm input sectors from two perspectives: the demand side and the supply side. Average input shares in the EU-27 for seeds and fertilizers declined while they increased for feeds. Market concentration is the largest in the plant protection agents sector followed by the energy sector, and lowest in the feed sector.

Reshoring of EU manufacturing

Rising costs in formerly low-cost countries, and particularly China, have recently brought reshoring – bringing back manufacturing – to the fore. The hope is for a return of the many jobs that left the EU from the 1980s through to the 2000s.

This note examines the consequences of REACH legislation for Small and Medium-Sized Enterprises (SMEs) since its entry into force in June 2007. It looks at impacts on the internal organisation of firms (including human resources), on strategy and on business activities. We also assess the experience of SMEs with available support and the perceived added value of REACH for SMEs. Our findings are based on a review of the literature and a set of interviews to a sample of firms.
