Úloha inovací v našem hospodářství roste. Inovace přinášejí občanům, ať už coby spotřebitelům či pracujícím, četné výhody. Hrají zásadní roli při vytváření lepších pracovních míst, budování ekologičtější společnosti a při zlepšování kvality našeho života a také při zachovávání konkurenceschopnosti EU na světovém trhu. Inovační politika stojí na pomezí politiky v oblasti výzkumu a vývoje technologií a průmyslové politiky a jejím cílem je vytvořit rámec, který umožní uvádět nové nápady na trh.

The workshop organised by the Policy Department A for the IMCO Committee aimed at discussing problems in the area of franchising and the impact of the EU rules on functioning of the franchising contract. It allowed exchange of views on market conditions in the EU as well as corrective legislative and regulatory actions.

At its plenary session on 6 October 2015, the European Parliament (EP) adopted a resolution on the possible extension of protection of geographical indications (GIs) to non-agricultural products. The report adopted by the EP stressed the opportunity and need to create a uniform European framework of protection for GIs for non-food products.

Strengthened border controls have enabled seizures of drugs in transit to developing countries.  Civil society groups criticise this policy, as it could have a negative impact on production and trade in generic drugs.
