Hovedformålet med EU's konkurrenceregler er at gøre det muligt for EU's indre marked at fungere korrekt som en central drivkraft for EU-borgernes, virksomhedernes og samfundets velfærd. Traktaten om Den Europæiske Unions funktionsmåde (TEUF) indeholder med henblik herpå regler, der har til formål at forhindre restriktioner og konkurrencefordrejninger i det indre marked. Mere specifikt gør den dette ved at forbyde dels konkurrencebegrænsende aftaler mellem virksomheder og dels dominerende virksomheders ...

Med forbehold af visse undtagelser finder konkurrencereglerne også anvendelse på offentlige virksomheder, offentlige tjenesteydelser og tjenesteydelser af almen interesse.
