The European Parliament is expected to adopt its yearly resolution on the EU's annual report on human rights and democracy in the world during its February 2022 plenary session. The report, approved by the Council of the EU in June 2021, focuses on the challenges human rights and democracy faced across in the world in 2020, and on the EU response, in the context of rising authoritarianism and democratic decline, exacerbated by the coronavirus pandemic.

EU-Armenia relations have recently been strengthened through the two parties' comprehensive and enhanced partnership agreement (CEPA), applied provisionally since June 2018. This instrument, along with additional frameworks – an association agreement, the European Neighbourhood Policy and the Eastern Partnership – promotes enhanced people-to-people contacts between the EU and Armenia.

Although Peru has ratified most international human rights instruments, there remain some serious problems, such as violent repression of civil demonstrations, attacks on journalists, corruption and impunity, and even torture. However, significant measures have been taken to tackle violence against women and sexual minorities.

After 22 years in power, Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko's camp can expect yet another victory in the 11 September parliamentary elections. The weary Belarusian opposition is no threat to the iron-fisted president, who represents stability in uncertain times. What is new, however, is that Lukashenko, who is increasingly trying to balance his relations with the West and Russia amid on-going economic woes, seems worried about the growing presence of pro-Putin forces in Belarus.
