The delivery model for the post 2022 common agricultural policy (CAP) involves basic EU level policy rules and greater responsibility for Member States as to how they tailor their CAP measure toolboxes to local needs. Nedenstående tabeller indeholder grundlæggende statistiske oplysninger for en række områder, der hører ind under den fælles landbrugspolitik: landbrugs- og fødevareindustrierne i medlemsstaterne (tabel II), indarbejdelsen af miljøhensyn i den fælles landbrugspolitik (tabel III), skovbrugssektoren (tabel IV), finansiering af og udgifter til den fælles landbrugspolitik (tabel I og V) og handlen med landbrugs- og fødevareprodukter (tabel VI).

Reformen i 2003 og sundhedstjekket i 2009 betød, at størsteparten af den direkte støtte blev afkoblet og overført til en ny enkeltbetalingsordning eller, for nye medlemsstaters vedkommende, en generel arealbetalingsordning (SAPS). En ny forordning, (EU) nr. 1307/2013, opstiller en ny ordning for direkte betalinger, der gælder fra 1. januar 2015.

Den fælles landbrugspolitik har gennemgået fem store reformer i tidens løb, hvoraf de seneste fandt sted i 2003 (midtvejsrevision), i 2009 (det såkaldte »sundhedstjek«) og i 2013 (for perioden 2014-2020). De første drøftelser om den fælles landbrugspolitik efter 2020 begyndte i 2016.

Finansieringen af den fælles landbrugspolitik er traditionelt blevet varetaget af én enkelt fond, Den Europæiske Udviklings- og Garantifond for Landbruget, der den 1. januar 2007 blev erstattet med EGFL og ELFUL.
