Each year, International Migrants' Day is observed on 18 December. Designated by the United Nations General Assembly on 4 December 2000, in response to increasing migration around the world, the day aims to draw attention to migrants' human rights and highlight their contribution to our societies.

Young people in the EU's outermost regions face challenges that are directly linked to the local geographical and socio-economic conditions. In May 2022, the European Commission launched a new strategy aimed at improving the living conditions of their inhabitants and, within that context, recently relaunched a €1 million grant scheme with the purpose of empowering young people to shape and implement projects at local level.

In recent years employment rates increased for nationals and mobile EU-citizens especially when minimum wages and/or collective agreements were in place.
