Auf der Februar-II-Plenartagung wird das Europäische Parlament voraussichtlich seine Standpunkte in erster Lesung zu zwei Gesetzgebungsdossiers annehmen: einem Vorschlag für eine Verordnung über das einheitliche ergänzende Schutzzertifikat für Pflanzenschutzmittel und einer vorgeschlagenen Neufassung der Verordnung über ergänzende Schutzzertifikate für Pflanzenschutzmittel. Die Vorschläge sind Teil einer umfassenderen Initiative zur Harmonisierung des Patentschutzes im Binnenmarkt.

A proposal by the European Commission to renew its approval for five years failed to gather a qualified majority of Member States and is to be submitted to an appeal body. The European Parliament has called for glyphosate to be phased out by 2022.

On 4 October 2017, the European Parliament voted to object to the European Commission's draft regulation setting out criteria for identifying endocrine disruptors in the area of plant protection products (PPPs).
