EU support for redundant workers in Italy

Εν συντομία 03-10-2013

The European Globalisation Adjustment Fund (EGF) co-finances measures that aim at helping workers acquire new skills and find new jobs. The Commission (EC) considers that two requests for aid to around 1 500 redundant workers in Italy meet the EGF criteria. Parliament and Council now have to decide on the related funding proposals for a total EU contribution of €3.7 million.

This note seeks to provide an initial analysis of the strengths and weaknesses of the European Commission's Impact Assessment accompanying the proposal for a Regulation of the European Parliament and of the Council on the Fund for European Aid to the Most Deprived.

In October 2011, the European Commission unveiled its proposals for EU Cohesion Policy for the 2014-2020 period, which is expected to better reflect the objectives of the Europe 2020 strategy and simplify the Structural and Cohesion Funds regulations.
