The pandemic led to unprecedented circumstances in the workplace, with millions of people having to work from their homes. With teleworking gradually becoming the new normal, the question is whether employees and employers are aware of and able to deal with potential tax consequences that can arise when employees occasionally work remotely from a country other than that in which their employer is based.

Young people joining today's labour market are entering a new work environment, with ever-more flexibility for employees given the continued digitalisation of the workplace. Such changes however also come with new tax policy challenges. Meanwhile, the European Commission is seeking to promote tax policy education.

The aim of this study is to provide the Members of the committee on Employment and Social Affairs (EMPL) with an updated review of findings from research on the impact of digitalisation in the workplace.

The outbreak of COVID-19 has had a marked impact on workplaces and reshaped working conditions in the EU. The study explores the impact of COVID-19 on the occupational safety and health of European workers. It presents a review of the measures adopted by 10 selected Member States and an evaluation of the preparedness of the European OSH legal framework for pandemic crises. Based on these findings, the study presents conclusions and policy recommendations.
