The North-East Atlantic Fisheries Commission (NEAFC) is an intergovernmental fisheries management organisation responsible for fishery resources in the North-East Atlantic, particularly in international waters. As a member, the EU incorporates NEAFC decisions into Union law. In January 2024, the European Parliament's Committee on Fisheries is due to vote on a proposal to integrate the NEAFC rules into a new regulation.

Farming of animals for fur raises significant concerns regarding animal welfare, the environment and public health. A European Citizens' Initiative, 'Fur Free Europe’, calls for an EU-wide ban on the keeping and killing of fur animals as well as the placing of farmed fur and fur products on the EU market. The European Parliament is expected to hold a debate on the subject during its second plenary session in the month of October.

Citizens' initiative on animal testing

During its July plenary session, the European Parliament will debate the European Citizens' Initiative 'Save Cruelty Free Cosmetics – Commit to a Europe without animal testing', following a hearing in the Committee on the Environment, Public Health and Food Safety (ENVI). The initiative calls on the European Commission to 'uphold and strengthen' the ban on animal testing, and to 'transition to animal-free safety assessments'.
