This policy note provides a brief evaluation of the social and employment situation in Ireland.

Fundamental social rights: in context of the elaboration of a Charter of Fundamental Rights, this study considers the fundamental social rights that already exist at European level and especially those included in the constitutions of the Member States of the European Union. The constitutions of some candidate countries are also examined.

The aim of this study is firstly to examine the European or international treaties and conventions currently in force and the European recommendations, resolutions and directives adopted and addressed to the Member States of the European Union.
