This study was drawn up for the delegation of the European Parliament’s Committee on Agriculture and Rural Development to the Azores Islands (Portugal) in November 2015. It consists of: an introduction presenting the key demographic and political data; an overview of the Islands' regional economy; a specific chapter on agriculture; lastly, ongoing rural development programmes and those supporting agriculture in the outermost regions of the Azores are described.

This in-depth analysis was written for a delegation from the Committee on Regional Development visiting Sicily. The analysis provides an overview of the region of Sicily, its political, economic and administrative system, and of the Operational Programme for the period of 2014-2020.

To maximise the potential of the mountainous regions of Europe the framework of current European policies in this sector must be improved. The report advocates an integrated and flexible approach, making it possible to adapt to the diversity of these areas, taking account of their differing economic, environmental and sociological aspects.
