Il programma PEACE dell'UE ha come obiettivo quello di sostenere la pace e la riconciliazione e di promuovere il progresso economico e sociale nell'Irlanda del Nord e nella regione di confine dell'Irlanda.

Sono state attuate misure specifiche a sostegno dello sviluppo delle regioni più remote dell'Unione europea, note come «regioni ultraperiferiche», ossia Guadalupa, Guyana francese, Riunione, Martinica, Mayotte e Saint-Martin (Francia), Azzorre e Madera (Portogallo) e isole Canarie (Spagna). Questo sostegno mira a ridurre gli ostacoli derivanti dalla lontananza geografica di tali regioni.

Fondo di coesione

Istituito nel 1994 dal regolamento (CE) n. 1164/1994 del Consiglio, il Fondo di coesione fornisce finanziamenti per la realizzazione di progetti nel settore dell'ambiente e delle reti transeuropee. Dal 2007 l'utilizzo del fondo è stato autorizzato anche per sostenere progetti in settori connessi allo sviluppo sostenibile, come quello dell'efficienza energetica e delle energie rinnovabili.
