Tra il 2020 e il 2022 l'iniziativa dei cittadini europei (ICE) "Stop Finning – Stop the Trade" (Stop all'asportazione e al commercio delle pinne di squalo) ha raccolto oltre 1,1 milioni di firme negli Stati membri dell'UE. L'ICE chiede il divieto del commercio di pinne di squalo e razza all'interno dell'UE e dall'UE. Il Parlamento europeo ha tenuto un'audizione sul tema nel marzo 2023 e ne discuterà durante la tornata di maggio I.

Tra il 2019 e il 2021 l'iniziativa dei cittadini europei (ICE) "Salviamo api e agricoltori!" ha raccolto oltre 1 milione di firme. L'ICE chiede una riduzione dell'uso dei pesticidi, fino alla loro completa eliminazione entro il 2035. La Commissione europea ha accolto con favore l'iniziativa. In tutta l'UE milioni di animali sono allevati in gabbia in condizioni che compromettono gravemente il loro benessere. L'iniziativa dei cittadini europei "End the cage age" (Basta animali in gabbia) invita la Commissione europea a porre fine alla pratica di allevare gli animali in gabbia e di proporre una normativa che lo vieti. In risposta a tale iniziativa, il Parlamento europeo dovrebbe tenere una discussione sull'argomento e votare una risoluzione durante la tornata di giugno I.
