L-Unjoni Ewropea stabbiliet klassifikazzjoni komuni tal-unitajiet territorjali għall-istatistika, magħrufa bħala “NUTS”, sabiex tiffaċilita l-ġbir, l-iżvilupp u l-pubblikazzjoni ta’ statistika reġjonali armonizzata fl-UE.
