EU climate and energy policies post-2020: Energy security, competitiveness anddecarbonisation
Briefing
24-03-2014
In January 2014, the European Commission presented proposals for post-2020 climate and energy policies. It proposed a 40% target for GHG reductions by 2030 and a 27% target for the market share of renewable energy sources, but as yet no new target for energy efficiency. The European Parliament favours three binding targets for emissions reductions, renewable energy sources and energy efficiency. The European Council aims to take a final decision on the new policy framework by October 2014.
