Employment in privatised utilities: A higher risk of precariousness?
This paper explores the risk of precarious work in privatised utilities, based on data analysis and literature review. It examines the history of privatisation of utilities in the EU including programme countries and the impact that this has had on levels of employment. Precarious Employment in Europe (Volume 1: Patterns, Trends and Policy Strategies ; Volume 2: Country Case Studies)
This Policy Department A study examines precarious employment, its patterns, trends and policy strategies in Europe. It explores the risk of precariousness of different types of contract, using information from EU data analysis and literature review, as well as case studies of eight EU Member States. It finds that there are a range and degrees of risks of precariousness associated with all types of contract, based on key indicators of precariousness.

Work-life balance: Measures to help reconcile work, private and family life
Good work-life balance promotes the well-being of workers and can contribute to achieving other EU policy goals. However currently more than one worker in five expresses dissatisfaction with their personal situation. Acheiving work-life balance can be made easier by family-oriented policies and flexibility in the organisation of work. It has been suggested that 2014 be designated the European Year for Reconciling Work and Family Life.

This study sets out a detailed analysis of the specific weaknesses typical of women's working lives in Europe, taking eight countries (Germany, Sweden, France, the United Kingdom, the Netherlands, Italy, Poland and Hungary) as examples.
