UE jest czwartym w kolejności partnerem handlowym regionu Pacyfiku, mimo niedużej wielkości handlu zarówno w skali bezwzględnej, jak i względnej. UE przygotowuje się obecnie do negocjacji umów o wolnym handlu z Australią i Nową Zelandią, które są ważnymi partnerami handlowymi, i zawarła partnerstwa z 15 niezależnymi państwami wyspiarskimi Pacyfiku (skupiające się na rozwoju, rybołówstwie i zmianie klimatu), a także 4 partnerstwa z krajami i terytoriami zamorskimi oraz z Forum Wysp Pacyfiku.

The Pacific island countries (PICs) attribute great importance to the outcome of the Paris Climate Conference (COP21), as climate change threatens their very existence. Ahead of COP21, the Pacific Islands Forum (PIF) adopted a common declaration on climate change, constituting a compromise between small Pacific island countries on one side and Australia and New Zealand on the other.

Development in the Pacific region is uneven, multi-layered and challenging. The European Union’s development cooperation with the Pacific is significant; in fact the EU is the second largest donor of development assistance to the region. This study, implemented by the European Consortium for Pacific Studies, analyses the current and future contexts for European Union engagement in development cooperation with the Pacific, and proposes elements of a renewed EU development strategy for the region. ...
