A política industrial da UE procura melhorar a competitividade da indústria europeia, assegurando assim a manutenção do seu papel como motor de desenvolvimento e de emprego sustentável na Europa. Foram adotadas várias estratégias de modo a assegurar melhores condições de enquadramento para a indústria da UE, tendo a mais recente sido descrita na comunicação intitulada «Por um renascimento industrial europeu», de janeiro de 2014.

Parliament and Council negotiators have reached a trilogue agreement on the Horizon 2020 framework research programme. This new instrument for European research and innovation funding seeks to simplify the rules for gaining funding, improve the commercialisation of research results and increase the participation of industry, SMEs and scientific community.
