Stratégia EÚ pre Strednú Áziu, ktorá bola naposledy revidovaná v roku 2015, tento rok oslávi svoje desiate výročie. Jej cieľom je dosiahnuť stabilitu a prosperitu a súčasne podporovať otvorené spoločnosti, právny štát, demokratizáciu a spoluprácu v oblasti energetickej bezpečnosti a diverzifikácie. Parlament zdôrazňuje význam ľudských práv, dobrej správy vecí verejných a sociálneho rozvoja. Miera demokratizácie a rozvoja sa v týchto krajinách značne líši a EÚ tomu prispôsobuje svoj prístup.
