The Committee on Legal Affairs wants Parliament to call on the Commission to put forward a proposal for a directive to lay down common rules on limitation periods for civil claims arising from cross-border traffic accidents. Its report stresses the differences between Member States' rules, and the legal difficulties faced by victims of cross-border accidents.

This Study provides an analysis of the effects of the present divergence of the customs sanctioning systems of the Member States of the EU, as well as of the proposal of the European Commission for a Directive to harmonise the customs infringements and sanctions. A number of conclusions and recommendations on the preferred model for the EU is provided. The Study was prepared for Policy Department A on the request of European Parliament´s Committee on the Internal Market and Consumer Protection.

This briefing paper tries to explore why mediation is not used more often as a means of dispute resolution. It identifies a number of reasons why mediation is not resorted to more frequently and presents proposals on how legislation could respond to these obstacles. The author wishes to highlight that, ideally, removing these obstacles will lead to an even less frequent use of mediation.
